The Road to Hana – Maui

The Road to Hana, oftentimes called “Hana Highway,” is a 68 mile long winding stretch of road on Maui that takes drivers past some of the most beautiful scenes and epic location in all of Hawaii. The Road to Hana has become somewhat of a legend, as it isn’t often you will find an attraction based around the name of a highway.

The Road to Hana is long and winding, and if you have some sort of an open aired vehicle (convertible, Jeep, etc.), then that makes the experience even better. The drive will normally take around three hours, but this time is only an estimate, as the stops you make and the length of time you spend at each stop will also have a determining factor in overall drive time. Hana Highway stretches from Lahaina to Kihei, or the other way around, and presents people with quite an exciting journey.

Also, don’t forget, you will be passing several other scenic points and places of history, so you may want to make those stops as well. You will also be treated to several waterfall, mountain and coastline views, and other beautiful scenery during your drive on the Road to Hana.

Tips and Suggestions

If you really want to be able to enjoy the Road to Hana to the fullest, then consider leaving at sunrise and spending the entire day driving and sightseeing. Remember, there is no rush, so please be careful and drive safely during your time on the Hana Highway, as many areas of the road are curvy, narrow, and can be dangerous.

The Road to Hana has become one of the most popular things to do on Maui, and rightfully so, as it offers up so much to see and do during the course of the drive. If you are ever on Maui then this is definitely something to put at the top of your “to do” list.
