Pipeline Sunset Beach – Oahu

There are many surfing destinations around the world and on that list you will often see several Hawaii beaches mixed in. That being said, one beach that is always either at the top, or near the top, or surfing destinations is Pipeline Sunset Beach on the North Shore of Oahu.

Dangerous Break

Pipeline is considered one of the most majestic surf breaks in the world. It is also considered one of the most dangerous, as the term “pipeline” comes from the way the waves break over the reef and form a pipeline that surfers strategically get into and ride out hoping to get a sensation unlike any other.

Pipeline on the North Shore seems to be in a category all its own. Why is Pipeline so dangerous? A number of things, depending on whom you ask, contribute to this surf break being one of the most dangerous in the world but the one thing that stands out is the fact that there are jagged rocks and a reef right below you. With only about three feet of water separating you from potential serious injury, and even death, surfing Pipeline at Sunset Beach takes both skill and nerve, as surfers from around the world come to conquer the swells.

Not to Be Missed

The Pipeline break surfing spot is something that shouldn’t be missed if you have the chance to see it. Sure, you will need to go at the right time of year, but if you do, you will see some of the most incredible waves and surf breaks in the world.

Not for Everyone

The Pipeline Break is not for everyone. You should never enter the water when the swells are big unless you are a professional surfer or someone who knows what they are doing. However, the beach is perfect for viewing and taking in all the sites and sounds of one of the most popular surf breaks in the world.

You can make a stop at Pipeline part of your day trip to the North Shore of Oahu, where you will also be able to see and explore Old Haleiwa Town and other North Shore Oahu treasures in the area.

If you are on Oahu and you have the chance to go up to the North Shore area and see Pipeline Sunset Beach, then don’t miss the chance to do this. Pictures only tell half the story and seeing it for yourself is something that you will never forget.
