Ho’okipa Beach Park – Maui

If you are looking for one of the best beaches in all of Hawaii when it comes to outdoor activities then you have to look no further than Ho’okipa Beach on the island of Maui. Known as the best spot for outdoor and water recreation on Maui, this majestic piece of beach is located at the mile #9 marker on Hana Highway.

The Ho’okipa Beach Park area is also known to have some of the best surfing waves anywhere, and that is saying a lot, especially when you consider that Maui also features Jaws and Oahu features the North Shore. The beach is considered a place where all surfers are able to ride and is also considered to be the “home of contemporary surfing,” as there are several high profile surfing competitions at the beach each year.

Ho’okipa is a very modern beach park. We say this because the area is safe, there are bathroom, a recreation staff, paved parking, and other great amenities that make the beach both friendly for families and sportsman alike. This is a definite “must stop” while you are on the Hana Highway, also known as the “Road to Hana.”

One thing we have yet to mention is the windsurfing aspect of Ho’okipa Beach. While the area is well known for surfing and other water activities, it is far and away most popular for its windsurfing. As a matter of fact, Ho’okipa Beach is considered by most to be the premiere windsurfing spot in the world. The area is very ideal for windsurfing because it has very well shaped waves and strong wind currents, both of which make for a windsurfing paradise.
